So this summer – summer 2017 – I took an online course in Fundamentals for Environment Design at The Computer Graphics Master Academy (CGMA).
Fundamentals for Environment Design is a course for concept artists who want to learn how to draw environments. The course teaches the basics of perspective, drawing, storytelling, painting, creating atmosphere, establishing lighting, and how to combine all these different elements.
It was a few intense weeks full of drawing and sketching, even though I didn’t always have the time or energy for it. But I’m so glad I took the course. All the feedback I received was relevant and constructive, and I’ve grown a lot from it. I can’t say I’m super happy with my sketches, but I see them as part of the learning process—and hopefully there will be more time (and energy) for more environment sketches in the future.
